Weekend Wrap Up: i heart themed parties!

12/16/12

Happy Holidays friends! It's that time of season where holiday parties are constant & the sweeter things in life are of abundance. What better way to celebrate the Holidays than to throw a cookie exchange party! I'm a huge fan of themed parties..... to think of it, ever since we have moved into our house, we've thrown about half a dozen crazy themed ones. This one in particular was our most successful. Our guests really came out to support our cookie cause & we are SO THANKFUL for everyones contribution & help. A few highlights below of the party & our makeshift Holiday photobooth. I think our parents really enjoyed the photobooth...haha!

Decade of Excellence

11/1/12

After 10 years of being together, I can honestly say that I am the happiest girl right now! Still smitten about this guy... he is my best friend... he is my husband. We are celebrating our Decade of Excellence of being Brent & Tawny today! Is that weird to talk about myself in third person?.... hahaha. Anyways, we are celebrating the evening by staying in with some gourmet cheese & wine. Simple, yet the only place I would rather be. We plan to take a little getaway and celebrate larger over the weekend. Happy Anniversary to my handsome hubby! I love you so much! This one's for you =)

Weekend Wrap Up: Plenty of Color

10/29/12

Two weekends ago my husband & I woke up early for the 5k Color Run. WE.HAD.SO.MUCH.FUN! If you ever get the opportunity to run one of these color themed runs, I highly recommend you do it!!! Not only was I motivated to run a nice 3.10686 miles, to be exact... I was so stoked to see the puffs of color in the air and all over other runners faces and bodies. Such inspiration of vibrancy. From the thousands of people running to the little kiddos pelting us with colored corn starch, everyone was having a colorful blast.

At the starting line.

Protective eyewear... of course!

 Before.

After.

Those kids got us pretty good. =)

NEW column: Weekend Wrap Up!

10/15/12

Happy Monday everyone!

It's mid October people.... can you believe it?!?! Man time flies! Now that I have some spare time to dedicate to my blog again, I want to share my weekend haps with you in this new column called Weekend Wrap Up, a weekly run down of my rather adventurous or rather boring weekends. Sometimes my weekends are boring with mostly house chores & laundry & such... but other times my weekends are SO busy with family get togethers, friendly brunches/dinners, DIY projects, or creative deadlines that I must meet. This past weekend was quite pleasant for a cool October weekend in SoCal. How was your weekend?

We picked up fresh roses from the market. I really enjoy waking up & seeing these colorful buds glisten in the morning sunlight. Brings a smile to my face every time.

October fright fest begins! The hubs & I snuggled close with hands over the face whilst peeking, of course! OH..... & must I just say, The Walking Dead season 3 premier... wickedly good. I am also diggin' the fall packaging on the Netflix red envelops. All in the little details people!

Rocked out to some 80s pop while I was working on some logo comps for my husbands homebrew. I can't wait to debut this branding project =)

Just my TYPE Tuesdays: Dog vs. Type

10/9/12

Why hello.........
Things may appear a tad different around here. I updated the look of the blog a smiggen. Do you like?

For todays TYPE Tuesday feature I stumbled upon this über cute typeface study verses doggies. I'm a sucker for puppy love and when you mix my two fave things, I am super smitten about the whole thing. I believe the correlation here is that the particular breed of dog has some characteristics of the typeface itself. Either way, it could be an artsy kinda thang, but I sure do dig the piece as a whole.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Engagement Party: Brittany+Grant

8/13/12

I'm SO excited to post this particular engagement....... you know why???...... Cuz my sister-in-law & soon-to-be brother-in-law are ENGAGED to be married. Yaaahooo! Oh happy day! Their engagement party was a success - many thanks to the brides parents (uhhh-hemm... my in-laws) for hosting a fantastic afternoon celebration.

Here are a few snapshots of the absolutely adorable couple & the bridal party, which they so graciously announced at the party. They also described each of the bridal party members and how much each person means to the couple.

Engagement invitation (designed by: yours truly!)

Lots of smooches.

Bridal Party
Phew... snuck in just in time. Bridesmaid....whut whut!

i heart gymnastics

8/9/12

Happy Thursday ya'll!

Now that gymnastics is over for this 2012 London Olympics, I can get back to my normal sleeping schedule.... hahaha! Dang NBC *fist shaking* showed gymnastics so late in the evening that I was kinda thrown off my bedtime.

Congrats to the US Women's Gymnastics team for bringing home the gold! I was so proud of them, I felt like I was their mother. I can only imagine how my parents felt when I was competing as a young gymnast. My mom used to tell me that she wouldn't breathe during any of my routines until I dismounted & stuck my landing. Those days are way in the past, but I thank my mom & dad for letting me do my gymnastics thang.  Here's a pic that is still hanging in my parents bedroom hallway. I'm on top of the world!! =)

Just my TYPE Tuesdays: Food TYPE

8/7/12

It's been a while, hasn't it?!?! I've had this post for a some time now, and finally have some time to post it today.  Enjoy =)

Appetizing isn't it?.......... So literal, I love it so much! Food AND type? Wowie... what a combo! This original design project focuses on the food pyramid, bound in a book as a collection of typographical art. Check out more images & fun foodie type here.

Happy Tuesday everyone!!

Just my TYPE Tuesdays: Don't be Krul

7/10/12

Currently obsessed with this Dutch born typeface, Krul. Most popular in the 1940s,  this hand painted typeface graced the windows of local Amsterdam ‘bruin cafés’ (brown cafés) or pubs.

Can I please get this "g" blown up and plastered onto one of the walls of my house?!?! *Smitten*

Paper Shadows

6/21/12

Paper is amazing..... but when you fold, form & crinkle paper & lastly add 1 light source, you can create cast shadow impressions of someones profile. GENIUS!! Brilliant Shadow artist Kumi Yamashita is indeed a genius. Her works of art are currently featured at the International Gallery of the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.  I 'm really diggin the simplicity & depth of her work! What do you think.... neat huh?!?!

Just my TYPE Tuesdays: For Keeps

6/19/12

I know we just celebrated Father's Day, but I wanted to give a shout out to my awesome mother-in-law for snagging me these oh so cute ceramic type boxes. They are SO adorable! I'm not sure if I want to keep these little guys all together or sprinkle them through out the house. AND I'm wondering what kind of treasures I can stash in these boxes. Either way, I love them to bits. Thanks Pam!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Just my TYPE Tuesdays: Chalk it up!

6/5/12

Can't help falling in love with chalkboard art, especially when it's vintage type written in classic white chalk. All found on Pinterest, these images inspire me to write up something sassy on my coffee table that I hand painted with chalkboard paint a while back. Have you made something fun with chalkboard paint? I would love to hear about your DIY projects!

Road Trippin'

5/27/12

We recently visited Northern California again, but this time is was because my younger brother graduated from college with his undergraduate degree. I'm so proud of him for his accomplishments. I was the designated photog for the event & captured this fun moment of him as he stood on his chair & waved back at the family.

From the East Bay area, my husband & I headed a few hours south & visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Both of us are a little obsessed with sea life, so we made a point to stop by & explore. I remember visiting this place as a kid & was so in awe of everything that I guess I never really grew out of it. The jellyfish exhibit was my fave!! If you've never been here before, it's definitely worth the long drive from SoCal. Double *thumbs up*!!

We headed further south from Monterey Bay down to Pismo Beach. Driving down Pacific Coast Highway along the coastline was spectacular. I'll be honest, I got a little car sick as we winded down those narrow roads, but the scenery was worth it. The California Condors soared above the cliff sides & the gorgeous surf was just breath taking.

Here's a little video I took when we stopped off the highway to check out the thousands of Elephant Seal's lined up on the beach at Año Nuevo State Park in San Mateo County. The site of these large stinky beasts was crazy madness!!

Just my TYPE Tuesdays & Package Design: TYPO

Fun finds last weekend when we stopped at the Camarillo Premium Outlets driving home from Northern California for my brothers college graduation. I get so giddy when I find a good deal, but I really get uber stoked when I find little treasures like these stationery supplies. These treasures below were all purchased from the Cotton On outlet. These Aussie branded office supplies are packaged in rustic textures & vintage & hand drawn typography. Super cute feel for the brand.

I can't wait to use these post-it's on everything! I'm such a "note maker" kinda gal, it's actually a quite perfect find. I know buying a calendar this late in year is a little weird, but you can never have too many calendars. Also, the measure tape spooled ribbon is an awesome accent to the gifts I will be wrapping it with =)
