Just my TYPE Tuesdays: Furniture shopping

Today during my lunch break, I decided to get away from the office mania and decompress with a little furniture browsing at my local Home Goods store. To celebrate Just my TYPE Tuesdays, I've decided to feature my fantastic finds of type driven furniture pieces & home accessories.

To my surprise, this lamp below inspired me to share this post with you today. The base of this lamp is made out of carved wood letters. Almost as if the designer fused wood block letters together. So beautiful! The lamp was accented with a dark gray burlap round shade. This lamp would look so sick in a dimmed, masculine den.

I spotted this vintage-esque chase lounge in the middle of the isle. All the type is in French....
SOOO romantique! (insert French-English accent here).

 

How wicked cool are these ceramic jars below.....?!?!? I.Don't.Know.What.Anything.Says...... but I so wanted to place them in my cart and find a home for these neat treasures. Maybe I'll go back soon (tomorrow) & buy them & add them to my typography collection. Just gotta get the husband to sign-off on them.... hehehehe!

Lastly, I saw this chair tucked away in the corner of the store. For $299.99, they can keep it... sheesh, I hope it goes on clearance soon, then maybe I'll reconsider it.  This piece still gives me great inspiration for a pattern design. I'm digging the raw calligraphic type all over the chair. I thought this chair would be a perfect office/desk chair.

Save-the-Dates: Adrianna+Steven

Did you read that SWEET rhyme on the top left hand side??? I almost died over how unbelievably creative that sounds.... and so simple & to the point. Props to the couple. I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff.

I'm excited to show you Adrianna & Steven's Save-the-Date postcards. I totally dig their playful style & their wicked cool personalities.  We tried really hard to portray that in their STD's.

A little bit about the cute couple.... they LOVE soccer!!! AND they are both REALLY freakin' good at it too! They love it so much, that they were clever enough to convince my husband and I to play with them on a co-ed indoor soccer team. Side note: I had never been a part of a soccer team ever in my life, so this game with this whole trying to be coordinated with your feet  & all.... was extremely new to me. I'll be honest with you.... I kinda stunk at the game..... That's all in the past now. Hopefully!! =)

Adrianna came to me with a killer color scheme. Dark gray & mustard yellow. Such harmony of hues. Love. Love. Love. Since their wedding date is in the month of October, she had the idea of incorporating the bare twiggy trees to match their ADORABLE engagement shoot image. I helped to play up the design with retro fonts & give it a funky fresh urban feel by tilting the frame.

During the design process, I like to ask my clients where they shop at for clothes, accessories & stuff. This helps me to design their personalities right into the project. Check out the back side of the postcard below.

It's official........
I have ZIGGED ZAGGED my BLOG.

I've been on this design trip of all things ziggy & all things zaggy. I know it's one of those patterns that dies out then comes back, but geez louise.... I AM OBSESSED. Sometimes I think my thoughts have gone ziggy zaggy.

Boy am I glad it's Friday!...... Fine---Naaaah--Leeeee!

I get to kick off my shoes, sit back & relax with my hubby this Friday evening. Homemade dinner & a bevy are on tonight's to do list.  I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend. Nothing spectacular planned..... just the fact that it is the weekend will suffice.

Summer is in full swing & you know what that means:

Graduation Announcements: Brittany D.

I'm sorry that I haven't posted a blog in a while. I have been incredibly busy lately. No excuses... I know! But better late than never.... Here is a post about a quick graduation announcement project I did for my beautiful & wonderful sister-in-law, Brittany Doan.

Graduating with your Bachelors degree is an accomplishment. Graduating with your Masters degree is an accomplishment too, but on a LARGER scale of accomplishments. My sister-in-law just graduated with her Masters in Education with a concentration in Special Education. I am such a proud sister-in-law!

Brittany has worked her bum off for this degree.... I know.... I heard all about it =) I'm a huge supporter of higher education. My family & friends are such S-M-A-R-T-y pants. I am blessed to be surrounded by motivated, go-getter kind of peoples. It also motivates me to reach beyond what I know.

I offered to design her graduation announcements. She could have gone with the bleh, ivory, linen-frayed, gold sealed, envelope within an envelope, plastered with the Cal Poly's school logo on it kind of graduation announcement instead..... but we talked & came up with this announcement that screamed Miss Brittany Doan!

Brit loves a pair of sassy boots.... so we added an image of a sassy graduating girl with boots! Brit loves the color turquoise. Why go with the forced boring school colors when you can opt for a poppy hue! I tried to design the announcement with as much "Brittany" in mind. I sent her the announcements & she LOVED the way they turned out. Of course I loved them too!

Congratulations Miss Brittany Doan on accomplishing her Masters degree. She deserves a HOORAY! Big pat on the back & a hug & a kiss from your sister-in-law!

Save-the-Date: Gigi+Ryan

I've known Gigi since our freshman year in high school. We weren't in the same clique during our high school years, nor did we attend the same college, but we have managed to stay friends with other friends that keep us close by association. Maybe it's a Filipino thing, where we are "cousins" or something like that.

Speaking of cousins... I once took a trip out to NYC with one of my real cousins in 2008. He ended up flying out there before me. As I waited in the Long Beach Airport terminal all by my lonesome, I noticed a girl & a guy that I had recognized. HaaaZaaaa.... it was Gigi & Ryan waiting to board the same flight to NYC. What.A.CowinkyDink! What are the chances that I would be on the same flight to NYC with this wonderful & oh-so-cute couple. Sadly, I still sat by myself. I had finally met up with my cousin & visited my best friend who lives there. We all met up with Gigi & Ryan for some drinks during there stay. But how is this for crazy..... My trip to NYC was kind of a weird 4 day 3 night stay like in the middle of the week AND guess whose was too!!!! Gigi & Ryan of course! We were on the same flight back. CRAZY right!?!?!

Gigi & Ryan have been the coolest clients to work with. They are so hip & trendy. I totally dig their style. I was so excited to hear the news that these 2 love birds were engaged through Facebook. It was through this social network site that I had complimented her on her UHH-Mazing food truck The Buttermilk Truck. The food truck was in my area & I was jazzed to go with my husband, who was less jazzed, to go stand in line in the rain & try her food, along with saying hello to an old friend. On Facebook, I wrote on her wall saying how much I enjoyed her red velvet chocolate stuffed pancakes AND a huge Congrats on their engagement. Well it was that comment that has brought us to this post.

Gigi, Ryan, & I collaborated on their Save-the-Date design. They wanted a modern, contemporary, hip, clean, no fuss kind of design for their Save-the-Dates. We went with a postcard design, with a bold number "2" on the front. For their wedding stationery, they liked to stay with a basic monochromatic palette, dark gray & white. I LOVE their choice in design & simple creativity.

 

For the back side of the post card, we also made it really simple & clear for guests to get the info to Save-the-Date for their upcoming wedding in September.
